I'm going in tomorrow to the dealer to have the combination meter replaced nether the ZTV warranty. I pulled into my driveway tonight and I can non turn off the car.

On the brandish the "Check Engine" light is on, everything else is black. The starter push has an orange light on. The parking button has a green light on. The console display is on, I tin can turn the radio on, but I tin't get the car to shut off.

If a person were to walk past they would see the panel display (that has the mileage and temperature, etc.) lighted.

So, I can't turn the car off AND I can't become it to get into gear to bulldoze it.

    HELP!!!!

  2. Try pressing the POWER button downwards for more than than three seconds. Hopefully that will forcefulness the car to IG-OFF.

I tried that equally information technology has worked in the past. It did Non work this fourth dimension.
  4. Is the Prius Set up?

If no, so open the hatch, notice the 12V bombardment in the right-rear corner, and disconnect the battery by removing the negative cable where information technology bolts to the trunk. Then the car should shut down.

If yeah, then y'all should exist able to drive the car.

    Any other thoughts?

Is it the right rear when looking nether the hood? Oh male child, I am not mechancal and lucky if I accept a wrench or screwdriver.

This may sound dizzy but how would I disconnect the cable?

  6. The battery is in the hatch area, not the hood. You need to remove the triangle shaped hatch floor piece as well as the trim piece adjacent to that, to come across the 12V battery. You lot would need a 10 mm socket or open up terminate wrench to remove the bolt.

Alternatively, if you lack tools, y'all can examine the positive bombardment cable and may exist able to see a connector that you can remove by hand.

I tried to open upwardly the hatch but it will not unlock no matter what I do.
  8. This is because the trunk ECU thinks the car's speed is some value other than zero since the combination meter is not working.

If yous wish to be persistent, open a rear door, lower a rear seat back and crawl into the hatch area, bringing a flashlight forth. Remove the folding hatch floor and look at the rear of the black plastic tray roofing the spare tire. Observe a small rectangular door near where the hatch lock is.

Open the door and discover a shiny metallic lever which is the mechanical hatch lock release. Motility that lever and apply upwardly forcefulness on the hatch, to open up it.

Patrick - what are chances the bombardment will exist dead in the morning if I can't get the negative cable removed?
  10. 100% chance that the bombardment will be dead tomorrow if left as-is.Given the higher up, your car is in IG-ON style which places a very heavy drain on the 12V bombardment. Your showtime post was more than one hour ago and by at present the battery has been drained ~15 Ah. The bombardment capacity when new is only ~forty Ah.

Depending upon how onetime the battery is and its state of accuse prior to this incident, the actual battery capacity may be much less than 40 Ah.

Once you are able to disconnect the 12V battery, you should put the bombardment on a charger to ameliorate the likelihood that the car might go Ready tomorrow. If yous can select the charging rate, use a 4A rate.

    UPDATE:

I was able to clamber dorsum there and come across the 12V bombardment. Couldn't get the gray plastic embrace off and got frustrated. I crawled dorsum out and into the driver's seat. This time I tried to commencement the machine with the driver's door open. I was able to offset the car. I then depressed the Power switch and the power went off!!

I have no idea if the machine door open did something or it just decided to power up. I am simply thankful it is now off.

Patrick - thank yous so much . If for some reason the automobile doesn't starting time in the morn is there any instruction I should requite to a tow company if it must be towed to the dealer?

  12. 1. If y'all have a battery charger, you should hook information technology up now and let it charge the bombardment until tomorrow morning. If yous can't get to the battery, you can hook upwardly the charger to the dedicated positive jumpstart terminal in the primary relay/fuse box next to the inverter.

Press Hard on the latch at the front of the relay/fuse box chapeau, and so pivot the lid upward and remove information technology.
Find the carmine embrace over the jumpstart terminal and release the latch, and then pivot the embrace.
Adhere the positive charger cable to the exposed terminal.
Adhere the negative charger cablevision to unpainted trunk metal, for example one of the strut nuts backside the relay/fuse box.
Turn on the charger, use a 4A charging charge per unit if possible.

ii. If you cannot get the car started tomorrow, then effort to get the gear selector into Northward to assistance getting your motorcar ready for towing. This will be facilitated if you have restored the 12V battery to full-charge.

If y'all can't go the gear selector out of P, then the tow truck driver will have to drag your automobile using the winch. This is not the end of the world just is not an elegant way to proceed.
